Anklets are big in 2024, with high-fashion brands embracing sleek, subtle pieces, as well as more eye-catching gold anklets. Chunky gold chains – the type you’d see on an early 2000s rapper (except… on an ankle) – as well as understated silver and turquoise designs have all been popular. Designers including Paco Rabanna and Miu Miu have spiced up this year’s catwalks by making anklets a key part of their shows.
Oceanic Pendants, Bracelets, and Earrings
A range of brands, in everything from high fashion to streetwear, have embraced the sea’s influence in 2024. Seashell, pearl, and fish inspired designs have become common. This trend hasn’t escaped anklets, either, and sea-themed beads and stones have brought an oceanic influence down to our feet. One catwalk saw a particularly unignorable pendant courtesy of Schiaparelli, as a model walked with a giant gold lobster hanging from her necklace that stretched over most of her torso. Maybe you won’t be partying with a lobster that looks like it weighs 10 kilos, but a subtle bracelet or earring can bring some of the sea’s charm to your outfit.
Mezuzah Jewelry
In Jewish culture, wearing a mezuzah necklace is a way of reminding oneself of their faith wherever they go. A range of mezuzah jewelry is available online, including mezuzah-shaped silver, gold, and diamond pendants. Mezuzah necklaces are inspired by the Jewish tradition of fixing a mezuzah – parchment containing Hebrew verses from the Torah – to the doorpost of one’s home. A mezuzah is placed to the right of the door in the upper third of the doorpost, and care is taken to not damage the parchment. Many people touch the mezuzah when passing through their doorway, and some choose to kiss their finger after touching the mezuzah.
Statement Watches
Are watches really for telling the time anymore? We’re all on our phones every hour of the day. But watches are a piece of jewelry. Classic styles with dials and yellow gold watches have come back into fashion in 2024. Watches were even making their way into chain chokers, and were seen on ankles as well as wrists (because that’s been done, right?). Both men’s and women’s styles are using eye-grabbing colours and materials, with emerald and gold-tone stainless steel featuring prominently. Watches have long been a way to make a statement, and 2024 has been a year for bling watch and pendant sets, gold and diamond pieces, and G-Shock-inspired designs.
Arm Cuffs
Earlier this year, Cosmopolitan reported on the trend of arm cuffs – not the “ones for your wrists”, but cuffs to “bedeck that bicep”. Star Wars-esque, “Princess Leia spiral style[s]” were making waves. Elsewhere, it was said that “The bold accessory highlights the arms, making its wearer look like a superhero in the process” (Refinery29).
Trends of 2024
Is there a common thread here? You’d do well to figure one out, but that’s what 2024 has been about: an amusing mishmash of styles and designs. We’ve seen that in jewelry, fashion, music – just about everything. It’s not a boring year; that’s for sure.
